Is my vehicle subject to tax if it is registered in another State? - TACS

Vehicles not registered with the Virginia State Department of Motor Vehicles are also subject to tax if the vehicle is normally garaged, stored, or parked in a Virginia jurisdiction for 30 days or more, with the exception of those exempted by law.

In some instances, a vehicle located in Virginia may show a jurisdiction in a different locality than where you reside.  In this case, you may need to work with the taxing jurisdiction and your residing jurisdiction to determine which is the appropriate taxing entity.  The commissioner of revenue is the appropriate office to contact for more information on what documentation may be needed for verification.
